Hello!
My name is Mrs. Haggerty and I am the Music teacher at IJHS. I have been teaching at IJHS since 2002. I grew up in Philadelphia, PA and officially moved to the Chicago-land area after I graduated from college. I received my under-graduate degree from Trinity Christian College in May of 2000. Beginning in 2002, I pursued graduate studies in School Guidance and Counseling at Lewis University. In May of 2013, I obtained a Masters of Music in Music Education from Kent State University. This past summer, I got married! On top of marrying a wonderful man, I also inherited three beautiful daughters. Needless to say, life has changed quite a bit for me this past summer!
On top of teaching music, I also conduct the IJHS Concert Choir and, along with Mrs. Meskimen, I assist Miss Weaver and Mr. DiNolfo with the spring musical.
On this website, you will find descriptions of each and every unit we cover in class in each and every grade level. Below each unit description are downloadable PDFs of worksheets or handouts that we use in class. Now there are no more excuses for lost papers!
In this class, I aim to satisfy the National Standards of Music established by the National Association for Music Education in 1994. The goals are:
1. Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.
5. Reading and notating music.
6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.
7. Evaluating music and music performances.
8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.
Additionally, our district-wide music program is in the process of aligning our curriculum with the developing Common Core Standards for the Arts.
